WHEREAS, The thousands of deaths caused by COVID-19 in Texas | ||
have created a tremendous void in families, communities, and | ||
workplaces throughout the state; among those who lost their lives | ||
in the pandemic was Jimmy Garcia, a dedicated and well-respected | ||
employee of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, who passed | ||
away on April 15, 2021, at the age of 56; and | ||
WHEREAS, A proud veteran, Mr. Garcia served in the U.S. | ||
Marine Corps for 15 years before joining TDCJ, and over the course | ||
of his career with the agency, he was employed as a correctional | ||
officer at the Neal and Clements Units; in his leisure hours, he | ||
enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and doing carpentry projects; | ||
moreover, he often gave freely of his time and expertise to help his | ||
colleagues and loved ones; and | ||
WHEREAS, Jimmy Garcia faithfully and ably performed his | ||
duties throughout his tenure with the Texas Department of Criminal | ||
Justice, and he will long be remembered with great admiration by all | ||
who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas | ||
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of | ||
Jimmy Garcia and extend deepest sympathy to his family, friends, | ||
and colleagues; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jimmy | ||
Garcia. | ||
