WHEREAS, Students from the Jack Yates High School JY Cinema | ||
program are gathering at the State Capitol on February 26, 2025, to | ||
celebrate the advancement of their two films to the finals of the | ||
2025 University Interscholastic League Young Filmmakers Festival; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, A historic moment for JY Cinema, this year marks the | ||
first time that two of its films have made it into the top six in two | ||
categories at the state finals; in recognition of their | ||
achievements, the school will receive two state plaques, and each | ||
of the 70 students in the program will earn a prestigious UIL state | ||
medal; and | ||
WHEREAS, The members of JY Cinema have spent the majority of | ||
the school year perfecting the films, both of which address issues | ||
related to student voices; the finalist entries include a narrative | ||
comedy, Switchin' Classes, and a documentary, The Circle of the | ||
Storm - The Dustin Garrison Story; and | ||
WHEREAS, Through their hard work and commitment to | ||
excellence, these talented young Texans have brought great pride to | ||
their school and community, and they are indeed deserving of | ||
special recognition for their accomplishments; now, therefore, be | ||
it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate the members of JY Cinema on | ||
advancing to the finals at the 2025 University Interscholastic | ||
League Young Filmmakers Festival and extend to them sincere best | ||
wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for the students as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. |
