| WHEREAS, The Honorable John A. Pope III, former state | ||
| district judge, has contributed to his profession and his community | ||
| throughout his distinguished legal career; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A native of Rio Grande City, Judge Pope earned his | ||
| bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University and went on to graduate | ||
| from St. Mary's University School of Law; respected in his field, he | ||
| has served as regional vice president of the American Law Students | ||
| Association and been a valued member of the Texas Disciplinary | ||
| Rules of Professional Conduct Committee and Delta Theta Phi; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Judge Pope became state district judge of the 381st | ||
| Judicial District in 1995, and throughout the following decade his | ||
| knowledge and commitment to justice earned him the lasting respect | ||
| of all who were privileged to work with him; since retiring from the | ||
| bench in 2006, he has enjoyed a notable tenure with the law firm of | ||
| Atlas & Hall in McAllen; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This esteemed jurist has further helped to enrich | ||
| the lives of his fellow citizens as a charter member of his local | ||
| Rotary Club, and his efforts in behalf of the group have been | ||
| recognized with the Paul Smith Award; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Judge Pope has been | ||
| supported by a loving family that includes his wife, Ana Maria, and | ||
| his children, Mayela and John; and | ||
| WHEREAS, John Pope has served the State of Texas with great | ||
| skill and dedication, and his myriad good works have made a lasting, | ||
| positive difference in his community; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the Honorable John | ||
| A. Pope III for his exceptional contributions to the legal | ||
| profession and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued | ||
| success; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Judge Pope as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
