R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, George E. Walker Jr. was presented with the
  Distinguished Graduate Award by the Texas A&M University Zachry
  Department of Civil Engineering on November 3, 2016; and
         WHEREAS, The Distinguished Graduate Award is given annually
  to Zachry Department alumni who have excelled in the civil
  engineering profession and who have displayed exceptional
  character and community involvement; recipients of the award are
  nominated by fellow A&M graduates, and they are selected by the
  Texas A&M Civil Engineering Advisory Board; and
         WHEREAS, "Jed" Walker graduated from Texas A&M in 1984 and
  soon after began his career at a regional engineering firm in
  Austin, where he worked for six years before returning to his
  hometown of Waco; in 2004, he opened his own civil engineering and
  surveying firm, Walker Partners, which has since added offices in
  Killeen and Austin; and
         WHEREAS, Over the past three decades, Mr. Walker has
  spearheaded thousands of civil engineering projects in Waco and the
  surrounding Central Texas area; some of his most notable
  undertakings include the Cameron Park Zoo, Baylor University's
  McLane Stadium, and expansions and rehabilitations at the Waco
  Regional Airport; he also played a leading role in infrastructure
  reconstruction following the 2013 chemical explosion in the city of
  West; and
         WHEREAS, Alongside his professional accomplishments, Mr.
  Walker serves the local community through extensive civic
  involvement and has held leadership roles with the Waco Rotary
  Club, the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce, the Boy Scouts of
  America, the Waco Metropolitan Planning Organization, and the
  Reicher Catholic High School Board; and
         WHEREAS, Jed Walker has contributed to the development and
  vitality of the Central Texas area through his outstanding work in
  the engineering field and through his service to his fellow
  citizens, and he is indeed deserving of this prestigious honor;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Jed Walker on his receipt of the
  Distinguished Graduate Award from the Texas A&M University Zachry
  Department of Civil Engineering and extend to him sincere best
  wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Walker as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
