relating to the authority of certain independent school districts | ||
to change the date of the general election for officers. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 41.0052, Election Code, is amended by | ||
adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: | ||
(a-1) The governing body of an independent school district | ||
that holds its general election for officers on a date other than | ||
the November uniform election date may change the date on which it | ||
holds its general election for officers to the November uniform | ||
election date. This subsection applies only to a county that | ||
borders the United Mexican States and that has a population of at | ||
least 450,000 and not more than 870,000. This subsection expires | ||
January 1, 2029. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
