the senate and the house of representatives. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 301, Government Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 301.073 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 301.073. SUBSTITUTE TEACHING REQUIREMENT. (a) Each | ||
member of the senate and the house of representatives shall | ||
substitute teach at a public school located in the member's | ||
district for at least one school day each school year. | ||
(b) Each member shall report the member's compliance with | ||
Subsection (a) to the senate or house committee on administration, | ||
as applicable. Each committee shall maintain a list of the members | ||
in the committee's respective house who do not meet the | ||
requirements of this section. The list is public information under | ||
Chapter 552. | ||
SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply | ||
beginning with the 2023-2024 school year. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
