A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the use of light-emitting diode (LED) light bulbs in
  state buildings.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 2165.009, Government Code, is amended to
  read as follows:
         Sec. 2165.009.  ENERGY-EFFICIENT LIGHT BULBS IN STATE
  BUILDINGS. (a) Except as provided by Subsection (b), a [A] state
  agency or institution of higher education in charge and control of a
  state building shall purchase for use in each type of light fixture
  in the building the commercially available model of light-emitting
  diode (LED) light bulb that:
               (1)  uses the fewest watts for the necessary luminous
  flux or light output; and
               (2)  is compatible with the light fixture.
         (b)  A state agency or institution of higher education under
  Subsection (a) may purchase a light bulb other than an LED light
  bulb if the use of an LED light bulb is incompatible with the light
  fixture or is otherwise impracticable. 
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
