A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to increasing the criminal penalty for the offense of
  injury to a child, elderly individual, or disabled individual when
  committed in a disaster area or evacuated area.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 12.50(b), Penal Code, is amended to read
  as follows:
         (b)  The increase in punishment authorized by this section
  applies only to an offense under:
               (1)  Section 20.05;
               (2)  Section 20.06;
               (3)  Section 20.07;
               (4)  Section 22.01;
               (5)  Section 22.04;
               (6) [(5)]  Section 28.02;
               (7) [(6)]  Section 29.02;
               (8) [(7)]  Section 30.02;
               (9) [(8)]  Section 30.03;
               (10) [(9)]  Section 30.04;
               (11) [(10)]  Section 30.05; and
               (12) [(11)]  Section 31.03.
         SECTION 2.  The change in law made by this Act applies only
  to an offense committed on or after the effective date of this Act.
  An offense committed before the effective date of this Act is
  governed by the law in effect on the date the offense was committed,
  and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. For
  purposes of this section, an offense was committed before the
  effective date of this Act if any element of the offense occurred
  before that date.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
