| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Chapter 159, Occupations Code, is amended by | ||
| adding Section 159.011 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 159.011. INQUIRY INTO FIREARM OWNERSHIP. A physician | ||
| who requests that a patient or a parent or guardian of a patient | ||
| provide information regarding firearm ownership by the patient, | ||
| parent, or guardian shall disclose to the patient, parent, or | ||
| guardian: | ||
| (1) why the information is requested; and | ||
| (2) to whom the information will be provided and for | ||
| what purpose, if the physician is requesting the information other | ||
| than for the physician's own patient records. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. | ||
