relating to continuing education requirements for county tax | ||
assessor-collectors. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 6.231(b), Tax Code, is amended to read as | ||
follows: | ||
(b) In addition to the requirement described by Subsection | ||
(a), a county assessor-collector shall: | ||
(1) successfully complete continuing education | ||
courses on ethics and on the constitutional and statutory duties of | ||
the county assessor-collector not later than the 90th day after the | ||
date on which the county assessor-collector first takes office; and | ||
(2) if the county assessor-collector assesses or | ||
collects property taxes, successfully complete at least 40 hours of | ||
continuing education courses on the assessment and collection of | ||
property taxes, including a course dedicated to Chapter 26, not | ||
later than the first anniversary of the date on which the county | ||
assessor-collector first takes office. | ||
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only | ||
to a county assessor-collector whose first term of office as county | ||
assessor-collector begins on or after the effective date of this | ||
Act. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
