proposing a constitutional amendment mandating the legislature to | ||
require candidates for public elective office in this state to | ||
undergo drug screening. | ||
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is amended by | ||
adding Section 74 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 74. Notwithstanding any other provision of this | ||
constitution, including provisions prescribing exclusive | ||
eligibility requirements to hold a public elective office in this | ||
state, the legislature shall provide by general law that a | ||
candidate for public elective office in this state must submit to a | ||
controlled substance use screening assessment. | ||
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | ||
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 5, 2013. | ||
The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the | ||
proposition: "The constitutional amendment mandating the | ||
legislature to require candidates for public elective office in | ||
this state to undergo drug screening." |
