SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 123
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Alpha Xi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Incorporated, on the occasion of its annual Founders'
Day Celebration, which is taking place February 21, 2015, at the
Renaissance Hotel in Dallas; and
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority was founded in 1908 on
the campus of Howard University and is the oldest Greek-lettered
organization established by African American college women;
Alpha Xi Omega is the sorority's oldest chapter in the Dallas
area; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding service-oriented organization
has through the years implemented a wide range of community
service efforts, including scholarship programs, counseling and
guidance for high school students, support for arts and cultural
groups, and health and social service initiatives for women and
children; and
WHEREAS, The theme for the 2015 Founders' Day Celebration
is "Launching New Dimensions of Service and Celebrating a Legacy
of Sisterhood"; it is truly fitting that this exemplary
organization receive special recognition for the positive impact
it has had on its community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Alpha Xi Omega
chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, on their
commitment to service and extend to them best wishes for a
memorable Founders' Day Celebration in 2015; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the chapter as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
