WHEREAS, Residents of Katy lost an admired civic leader with | ||
the passing of Karon Kaye Tinsley Goolsby on June 19, 2023, at the | ||
age of 73; and | ||
WHEREAS, The daughter of Harold Tulsa "Tip" Tinsley and Sarah | ||
Johnette "Pete" Tinsley, the former Kaye Tinsley was born in | ||
Ruston, Louisiana, on April 3, 1950; she completed her bachelor's | ||
degree in business administration at Louisiana Tech University and | ||
married her college sweetheart, Gary B. Goolsby, on April 26, 1975; | ||
after living briefly in Houston, they settled in Katy in 1977; they | ||
became the proud parents of a son, Greg, and Mrs. Goolsby supported | ||
him in all his activities; she served at his schools in numerous | ||
capacities, from PTA officer to varsity football coordinator, and | ||
then benefited the entire Katy Independent School District as a | ||
member of its PTA Council and Partners in Education Advisory Board; | ||
she was also a member of the advisory team for Taylor High School, | ||
and alongside her husband, she became a Keystone Investor in the | ||
Katy ISD Education Foundation; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mrs. Goolsby gave generously of her time and talents | ||
to numerous organizations, among them the Memorial Parkway | ||
Community Association, Houston Junior Forum, and the Business | ||
Steering Committee for Houston Community College; she chaired the | ||
Katy Area Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee and led | ||
the chamber's Katy Day event during three legislative sessions; | ||
long active in the Republican Party, she provided invaluable | ||
expertise to countless successful campaigns at the local, state, | ||
and national levels; she held a variety of key positions in such | ||
organizations as the Mason Creek Republican Women, West Houston | ||
Republican Women, and Greater Katy Area Republicans, and she was | ||
highly involved in the Texas Federation of Republican Women; | ||
eventually, she took prominent roles in the National Federation of | ||
Republican Women; she was honored in 2011 as one of the Top Ten | ||
Republican Women in Texas; along the way, she combined her passion | ||
for education and politics by arranging for students to meet public | ||
officials, making school presentations on the democratic system, | ||
and judging mock congressional hearings; and | ||
WHEREAS, For over 40 years, Mrs. Goolsby was a pillar of | ||
First United Methodist Church of Katy, and she became its first | ||
female lay leader; above all, she was devoted to her family, which | ||
grew to include two treasured grandchildren, Preston and Avery; and | ||
WHEREAS, The life of Kaye Goolsby stands as an inspiring | ||
example of civic engagement, and her contributions will be | ||
remembered and admired for years to come; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 1st | ||
Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Kaye Goolsby and | ||
extend sincere condolences to her family and many friends; and, be | ||
it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this | ||
day, it do so in memory of Karon Kaye Tinsley Goolsby. |
