Garrison Good Card | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and | ||
commemorates the life of Garrison Good Card, who died October 4, | ||
2016, at the age of 88; and | ||
WHEREAS, Garrison Good Card was born on May 10, 1928, in | ||
Port-au-Prince, Haiti; her father was a lieutenant general in the | ||
United States Marine Corps, and she grew up living in military | ||
posts around the world; and | ||
WHEREAS, She was married for 61 years to the late H. W. | ||
Card Jr., who retired from the United States Marine Corps with | ||
the rank of colonel; they raised four children together, and she | ||
was blessed with six grandchildren and numerous | ||
great-grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, She devoted her life to her family and worked | ||
tirelessly to ensure its togetherness; she even organized a move | ||
to Taiwan during one of her husband's deployments so that they | ||
could all remain together; and | ||
WHEREAS, The family moved to Harlingen in 1968, and she | ||
quickly grew to love the Rio Grande Valley; an astute | ||
businesswoman, she was instrumental in establishing the | ||
country's first E. F. Hutton Financial Services office, and she | ||
later created her own firm, the Card Investment Group, with her | ||
son; she was active in a wide range of philanthropic efforts; and | ||
WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she | ||
gave generously to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued | ||
counsel will not be forgotten; and | ||
WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, | ||
and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by | ||
her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
family of Garrison Good Card; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Garrison Card. | ||
