SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 31
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Jerry Allen Smith
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Jerry Allen Smith, who died July 25,
  2021, at the age of 83; and
         WHEREAS, Allen Smith was born on January 31, 1938, in Fort
  Worth, to Charles and Ruth Smith; while attending high school in
  Shreveport, Louisiana, he met and married the love of his life,
  Sandra Lee Hunt, and the couple enjoyed more than 65 years of
  marriage together; they were blessed with two sons, Jerry Smith Jr.
  and Chuck Smith, and their grandchildren and great-grandchildren
  were a source of much pride and joy for him; and
         WHEREAS, He earned a degree in business with honors from
  Centenary College before earning a master's degree in
  professional accounting, also with honors, from The University
  of Texas at Austin; he went on to enjoy a successful, 37-year
  career with the Exxon Corporation, where he held a variety of
  management positions, including with the company's European
  subsidiaries; and
         WHEREAS, After his retirement from the Exxon Corporation,
  he taught classes in accounting at the University of Houston,
  Texas A&M University, and The University of Texas at Austin; he
  also served with distinction as a lieutenant colonel in the Texas
  State Guard and was active in a wide range of civic and
  philanthropic organizations, including the Texas Military Forces
  Museum, Tarrytown United Methodist Church, Habitat for Humanity,
  Meals on Wheels, and many others; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, wisdom, and generosity, Allen
  gave unselfishly to others, and he will long be remembered for
  his deep and abiding faith and his enthusiasm for living each day
  to the fullest; and
         WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and
  grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be cherished
  forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
  Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
  condolences to the bereaved family of Jerry Allen Smith; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Allen Smith.
