Jerry Allen Smith | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and | ||
commemorates the life of Jerry Allen Smith, who died July 25, | ||
2021, at the age of 83; and | ||
WHEREAS, Allen Smith was born on January 31, 1938, in Fort | ||
Worth, to Charles and Ruth Smith; while attending high school in | ||
Shreveport, Louisiana, he met and married the love of his life, | ||
Sandra Lee Hunt, and the couple enjoyed more than 65 years of | ||
marriage together; they were blessed with two sons, Jerry Smith Jr. | ||
and Chuck Smith, and their grandchildren and great-grandchildren | ||
were a source of much pride and joy for him; and | ||
WHEREAS, He earned a degree in business with honors from | ||
Centenary College before earning a master's degree in | ||
professional accounting, also with honors, from The University | ||
of Texas at Austin; he went on to enjoy a successful, 37-year | ||
career with the Exxon Corporation, where he held a variety of | ||
management positions, including with the company's European | ||
subsidiaries; and | ||
WHEREAS, After his retirement from the Exxon Corporation, | ||
he taught classes in accounting at the University of Houston, | ||
Texas A&M University, and The University of Texas at Austin; he | ||
also served with distinction as a lieutenant colonel in the Texas | ||
State Guard and was active in a wide range of civic and | ||
philanthropic organizations, including the Texas Military Forces | ||
Museum, Tarrytown United Methodist Church, Habitat for Humanity, | ||
Meals on Wheels, and many others; and | ||
WHEREAS, A man of courage, wisdom, and generosity, Allen | ||
gave unselfishly to others, and he will long be remembered for | ||
his deep and abiding faith and his enthusiasm for living each day | ||
to the fullest; and | ||
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and | ||
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be cherished | ||
forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th | ||
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere | ||
condolences to the bereaved family of Jerry Allen Smith; and, be | ||
it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Allen Smith. | ||
