SENATE RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join Texans across the state in celebrating April 18, 2023, as
  Baylor Day at the State Capitol; and
         WHEREAS, Baylor University was established on February 1,
  1845, by an act of the Congress of the Republic of Texas; the
  oldest continually operating university in the state, this
  private Christian university provides a vibrant campus community
  to nearly 21,000 students; and
         WHEREAS, A highly acclaimed undergraduate and Tier 1
  research institution, Baylor University offers, in addition to
  baccalaureate degrees, master's degrees and doctoral degrees as
  well as a juris doctor degree and two education specialist
  programs; and
         WHEREAS, Baylor University is home to a variety of
  exceptional athletic programs, with more than 500 student
  athletes who compete at the highest level in sports and
  consistently rank among the nation's best university students;
  and
         WHEREAS, The combination of interdisciplinary research
  and faculty commitment to teaching and scholarship have served to
  create an institution with an international reputation for
  educational excellence, and it is indeed fitting that the
  school's many contributions to higher education in Texas be
  recognized and celebrated; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
  Legislature, hereby commend Baylor University on its commitment
  to educating future leaders and extend to the university's
  students, faculty, and staff best wishes for a memorable and
  rewarding Baylor Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of this special occasion.
