WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
join Texans across the state in celebrating April 18, 2023, as | ||
Baylor Day at the State Capitol; and | ||
WHEREAS, Baylor University was established on February 1, | ||
1845, by an act of the Congress of the Republic of Texas; the | ||
oldest continually operating university in the state, this | ||
private Christian university provides a vibrant campus community | ||
to nearly 21,000 students; and | ||
WHEREAS, A highly acclaimed undergraduate and Tier 1 | ||
research institution, Baylor University offers, in addition to | ||
baccalaureate degrees, master's degrees and doctoral degrees as | ||
well as a juris doctor degree and two education specialist | ||
programs; and | ||
WHEREAS, Baylor University is home to a variety of | ||
exceptional athletic programs, with more than 500 student | ||
athletes who compete at the highest level in sports and | ||
consistently rank among the nation's best university students; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, The combination of interdisciplinary research | ||
and faculty commitment to teaching and scholarship have served to | ||
create an institution with an international reputation for | ||
educational excellence, and it is indeed fitting that the | ||
school's many contributions to higher education in Texas be | ||
recognized and celebrated; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
Legislature, hereby commend Baylor University on its commitment | ||
to educating future leaders and extend to the university's | ||
students, faculty, and staff best wishes for a memorable and | ||
rewarding Baylor Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in | ||
honor of this special occasion. |
