SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 657
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join Harmony Public Schools in celebrating Texas STEM Education
  Week in El Paso; and
         WHEREAS, Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics
  education is becoming increasingly important as more and more
  jobs require a strong foundation in these fields; and
         WHEREAS, The Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and
  Mathematics Initiative, or T-STEM Initiative, is a public-private
  initiative of academies, professional development centers, and
  networks designed to improve instruction and academic performance
  in subjects related to science and mathematics at secondary
  schools; and
         WHEREAS, Harmony Public Schools have been part of the
  T-STEM Initiative since its inception; Harmony schools have
  focused on providing high-quality STEM education that will equip
  students to succeed in the modern world; there are currently only
  91 schools statewide that are designated as T-STEM academies, and
  25 of them are Harmony campuses; and
         WHEREAS, Harmony Public Schools have implemented a number
  of programs to enhance STEM education at all levels; eight
  Harmony schools use Project Lead the Way as part of the
  curriculum; the Gateway to Technology program is offered in
  Harmony middle schools, and Pathway to Engineering is available
  in Harmony high schools; and
         WHEREAS, Harmony leads the way in First Lego League
  Robotics,FirstTechChallenge,andFirstRobotics;thevisionof
  the Harmony robotics program is "to transform our culture by
  creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and
  where young people dream of becoming science and technology
  heroes"; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby recognize the week of May 4 through May 10,
  2015, as Celebration of Texas STEM Education Week in El Paso,
  Texas; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of this special occasion.
