WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and | ||
commemorates the life of Shelly Cantú-Valdez, who died January | ||
12, 2025, at the age of 52; and | ||
WHEREAS, A lifelong Texan, Shelly Cantú was born in Freer | ||
on November 18, 1972, to Arnoldo Cantú and Diana Garza; she | ||
earned her diploma from Freer High School in 1991, and she | ||
pursued higher education at Bee County College and completed a | ||
paralegal degree from Texas A&M International University in | ||
2004; and | ||
WHEREAS, Shelly enjoyed a successful career in public | ||
service that included working as an analyst for Immigration and | ||
Customs Enforcement, and she was passionate about her role as a | ||
paralegal and contributed her expertise and experience as an | ||
esteemed staff member with DeSouza Injury Lawyers; and | ||
WHEREAS, Compassionate and driven by a desire to improve | ||
the lives of vulnerable children, Shelly served on the board of | ||
Court Appointed Special Advocates in Duval County, and she was | ||
committed to helping others and always willing to assist fellow | ||
citizens in need; and | ||
WHEREAS, Shelly shared five rewarding years of marriage | ||
with her devoted husband, Mariano Valdez III, and she was a | ||
loving mother to her four children, Enrique, Alyssa, Daniella, | ||
and Kairee; and | ||
WHEREAS, A woman of integrity and immeasurable kindness, | ||
Shelly was a beloved member of her community, and she leaves | ||
behind memories that will long be cherished by all who were | ||
privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th | ||
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
family of Shelly Cantú-Valdez; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Shelly Cantú-Valdez. |
