Summary

Campaign Finance Disclosure Act of 2006; applicability to town elections. Authorizes the governing body of any town with a population of less than 25,000, by ordinance, to provide that the provisions of the Act shall apply to elections in the town for town offices. Present law exempts from the provisions of the Act all elections for town office in towns with a population of less than 25,000. The bill also will make the town elections subject to other provisions governing political campaign advertisements (ยง 24.2-955 et seq.) in those towns opting to be covered by the Act. The provisions on advertisements apply when the cost or value of the advertisement must be reported as a contribution or expenditure under the Campaign Finance Disclosure Act.
