Summary

Victims of crime; compensation; awards from Criminal Injuries Compensation Fund. Extends the timeline for filing a claim by a victim from one to three years after the occurrence of the crime upon which such claim is based. The bill clarifies that no guidelines promulgated by the Department of Criminal Justice Services shall require the reporting of crimes or disclosure of sensitive personal information to law-enforcement agencies in order for victims to become eligible for or receive programs, services, support, or compensation. Finally, the bill makes various amendments to how an award shall be made by the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Fund.
