A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding in Chapter 2 of Title 29.1 a section numbered 29.1-219, relating to conservation police officers; retirement.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Chapter 2 of Title 29.1 a section numbered 29.1-219 as follows:

§29.1-219. Retirement status of certain conservation police officers.

Any conservation police officer who (i) has at least 20 years of service as a conservation police officer, (ii) is a full-time sworn member of the enforcement division of the Department of Game and Inland fisheries immediately prior to January 1, 2016, and (iii) is transitioned to a civilian position on January 1, 2016, by the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries shall be considered a retired law-enforcement officer for the purposes of §§9.1-1000, 18.2-308, 18.2-308.03, and 59.1-148.3.
