Approved

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That § 22.1-51 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:

§22.1-51. Appointment and terms in City of Norfolk.

Notwithstanding the provisions of the charter of the City of Norfolk, the school board of the City of Norfolk shall consist of seven members to be appointed by the city council from the city at large. Members shall be appointed to serve for terms of two three years beginning on July 1 except that initial appointments shall be staggered so that the terms of four members expire in odd-numbered years and the terms of three members expire in even-numbered years. Any vacancy occurring on the school board other than by expiration of term shall be filled by the council for the unexpired term.

2. That the provisions of this act shall not affect the length of any term that began prior to July 1, 2014.
