A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 23.1-608.1, relating to dependents of disabled veterans; waiver of tuition and mandatory fees.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 23.1-608.1 as follows:

§23.1-608.1. Dependents of disabled veterans; waiver of tuition and mandatory fees.

A. As used in this section, "dependent student" and "veteran" have the same meaning as provided in §23.1-500.

B. A dependent student who has been admitted to a public institution of higher education is eligible for a waiver of tuition and mandatory fees, excluding room and board, at such institution if:

1. Such student's parent is a veteran who (i) has made the Commonwealth his military home of record, (ii) has resided in the Commonwealth for at least three years, and (iii) is at least 90 percent permanently disabled due to such service; and

2. No sibling of such student has received a waiver of tuition and mandatory fees through the same veteran parent pursuant to this section.
