A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding in Title 52 a chapter numbered 7.4, consisting of a section numbered 52-34.10, relating to the Department of State Police; establishment of a cold case searchable database.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1.  That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Title 52 a chapter numbered 7.4, consisting of a section numbered 52-34.10, as follows:

CHAPTER 7.4.
COLD CASE SEARCHABLE DATABASE.

§52-34.10. Cold Case Searchable Database established.

A. The Superintendent of State Police may establish and maintain a cold case searchable database including unsolved homicide, missing person, and unidentified person cases to assist law-enforcement agencies in the development of information leading to the identification and arrest of persons who may have committed the crimes.

B. The searchable database may include interactive elements consisting of (i) the type of case, (ii) the location where the crime was committed, (iii) the law-enforcement agency name, and (iv) the year the crime occurred.
