HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 119
Commending Blue Ridge Baptist Church.

WHEREAS, for 150 years, Blue Ridge Baptist Church of Botetourt County has provided its members with uplifting spiritual guidance, occasions for joyful worship, and opportunities for generous community outreach; and

WHEREAS, starting in a one-room, log building in 1873, Blue Ridge Baptist Church was one of the only Black churches in the Blue Ridge region for many years; and

WHEREAS, Blue Ridge Baptist Church was relocated to its current church building in 1977 following a capital campaign organized by pastor William B. Crocker and members of the Ragsdale family; and

WHEREAS, several accomplished pastors have led the congregation at Blue Ridge Baptist Church over the years and worked to ensure the church's prosperity and longevity, including William B. Crocker, Ottawa Pullen, Gary Alexander, and Marcus Huffman; and

WHEREAS, Blue Ridge Baptist Church is a member of the Valley Baptist Association of Roanoke and is engaged in numerous outreach activities to benefit communities throughout the region; and

WHEREAS, over the past 150 years, Blue Ridge Baptist Church has been a spiritual home for the many individuals who have sought community and a greater sense of purpose within its walls; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Blue Ridge Baptist Church of Botetourt County as its congregation celebrates the church's 150th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Marcus Huffman, pastor of Blue Ridge Baptist Church of Botetourt County, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the church's history and its contributions to the Commonwealth.
