Celebrating the life of John Peter Clements.

WHEREAS, John Peter Clements, a respected banking professional, community leader, and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather in Carson, died on July 28, 2023; and

WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Carson in Prince George County, Peter Clements attended Ferrum College and received a bachelor's degree from Washington and Lee University; he continued his education at The College of William and Mary in Virginia, where he earned a master of business administration degree; and

WHEREAS, Peter Clements was a strong supporter and board member at all his alma maters, at Richard Bland College, and at his father's beloved Randolph-Macon College; and

WHEREAS, Peter Clements joined the Bank of Southside Virginia in 1984 and dedicated many years of service to the banking industry, and he provided his leadership and expertise to several organizations related to banking and economic development; and

WHEREAS, Peter Clements served as chair of the Virginia Bankers Association and on several committees at the American Bankers Association and Virginia's Gateway Region; and

WHEREAS, Peter Clements volunteered his time to enhance community life in a variety of ways, such as by cooking stew for events at the Carson Ruritan Club; and

WHEREAS, Peter Clements enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community as a devout member of Carson United Methodist Church, through which he supported several other charitable causes and missions; and

WHEREAS, Peter Clements will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his beloved wife of 39 years, Jennifer; his sons, Will and James; daughters-in-law, Amanda Russell and Courtney Clements; and an adored granddaughter, Lillie Clements; and

WHEREAS, Peter Clements led a life of commitment, impact, and service, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him and every organization he supported; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of John Peter Clements; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of John Peter Clements as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
