HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 244 Offered February 4, 2010 Commending Gail D. Davis. ---------- Patrons-- Cox, M.K. and Nixon; Senator: Martin ----------

WHEREAS, Gail D. Davis of Richmond is commended for her selection as the Virginia Independent Automobile Dealers Association 2008 Quality Dealer of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Quality Dealer of the Year award annually recognizes an independent dealer for his or her contributions to the industry, community and professional service, and adherence to a code of ethics; and

WHEREAS, Gail Davis and her husband opened Davis Auto Sales in 1976; the business has grown over the decades to nine full-time employees, including their three sons; and

WHEREAS, a hard-working and motivated entrepreneur, Gail Davis continued to work for Philip Morris USA while doing the accounting and computer work for Davis Auto Sales; during her 37-year career at Philip Morris USA, she completed a bachelor's degree in information systems and rose to the position of lead systems analyst before her retirement; and

WHEREAS, Gail Davis recognized the role that technology could play in business and developed a website and computerized the business processes for Davis Auto Sales long before many individual dealers had computers; and

WHEREAS, since her retirement from Philip Morris USA, Gail Davis has worked full-time as vice president of Davis Auto Sales, where she continues to lead the company with her innovative ideas; and

WHEREAS, Gail Davis has generously given of her time and expertise in numerous leadership positions with the Virginia Independent Automobile Dealers Association, including as district secretary, president, and chairman of the board and as state vice president; and

WHEREAS, Gail Davis has been honored for her service on behalf of independent automobile dealers and the auto industry with two National Independent Automobile Dealers Association Eagle Awards, the District President's Award, and the President's Award for membership recruitment; and

WHEREAS, committed to quality, integrity, and excellence, Gail Davis is an outstanding role model for all business leaders; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Gail D. Davis on her selection as the Virginia Independent Automobile Dealers Association 2008 Quality Dealer of the Year; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Gail D. Davis as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her excellence as a business leader and her commitment to quality in serving her community and the Commonwealth.
