Celebrating the life of Donald Owen Manning.

WHEREAS, Donald Owen Manning, a respected attorney and community leader in Arlington, died on April 20, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Donald "Don" Owen Manning grew up in Arlington, where he graduated from what is now Washington-Liberty High School; he subsequently earned a bachelor's degree from Duke University and a law degree from the University of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, after law school, Don Manning served his country as a lieutenant in the Fifth Infantry Division of the United States Army, earning a Bronze Star for his meritorious achievements in Vietnam; and

WHEREAS, Don Manning helped thousands of clients with estate planning and estate administration as a co-founder of the law firm Manning & Murray, now known as Manning, Murray & Barnett; and

WHEREAS, highly admired in the legal profession, Don Manning was elected as a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel in 1985; and

WHEREAS, outside of his career, Don Manning enhanced local life as a past president of the Arlington Community Foundation, founder and chair of the endowment fund at Rock Spring Church, and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Arlington; and

WHEREAS, Don Manning was also a lifelong lover of baseball, who was a player and coach at different points of his life and was an avid fan of the Washington Nationals; and

WHEREAS, Don Manning will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 50 years, Angela; his sons, Andrew and Michael, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Donald Owen Manning; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Donald Owen Manning as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
