Commending Mickey Thompson.

WHEREAS, Mickey Thompson proudly served as the head coach of the Stone Bridge High School football team for 24 seasons, leading the team to winning records in all but one of those seasons, multiple district and regional titles, and three state titles; and

WHEREAS, Mickey Thompson previously coached at Park View High School in Sterling for 10 years and brought his signature single-wing offense to Stone Bridge High School when it opened in 2000; and

WHEREAS, under Mickey Thompson's leadership, the Stone Bridge Bulldogs have been a football powerhouse for nearly two and half decades, recording nine undefeated seasons and compiling an incredible 265–53 overall record in that period; and

WHEREAS, Mickey Thompson guided the Stone Bridge Bulldogs to the program's first state title in 2007 with a dominating 38–0 victory over the Potomac High School Panthers; and

WHEREAS, Mickey Thompson helped the Stone Bridge Bulldogs win their second state championship in the spring of 2021, when the state final had been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, defeating Highland Springs High School 13–10 in overtime; and

WHEREAS, a few months later, Mickey Thompson and the Stone Bridge Bulldogs followed up with a dramatic victory against Maury High School on the last play of the game to secure back-to-back state titles; and

WHEREAS, Mickey Thompson coached his last season as head coach of the Stone Bridge Bulldogs in 2023, with the team finishing as state runner-up in a game that stayed close despite the Bulldogs losing both their quarterback and backup quarterback to injury; and

WHEREAS, Mickey Thompson plans to seek new opportunities to serve the community and may continue to serve as an assistant coach after his retirement as a head coach; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That Mickey Thompson hereby be commended for his exceptional service to Stone Bridge High School as the head football coach for 24 seasons; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mickey Thompson as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his achievements as a coach and legacy of contributions to countless young people in Ashburn.
