HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 355 Offered March 4, 2024 Commending the Yorktown High School girls' swim and dive team. ---------- Patrons-- Hope and Lopez; Senators: Ebbin and Favola ----------

WHEREAS, the Yorktown High School girls' swim and dive team won its second consecutive state title with a victory in the Virginia High School League Class 6 state championship; and

WHEREAS, on the road to the state tournament, the Yorktown High School Patriots also won their third consecutive regional championship title; and

WHEREAS, in the state final, held at Hampton Aquaplex, the Yorktown Patriots finished with 224 points overall, outpacing the runners-up from Robinson Secondary School by more than 50 points; and

WHEREAS, with a deep roster of more than 70 talented student-athletes, the Yorktown Patriots participated in every event, with numerous team members earning top-five finishes; and

WHEREAS, Yorktown High School freshman Lila Sherman, who previously placed in the top 10 of the USA Swimming Futures Championship and won five heats at the Riley Eaton Holiday Invitational, won the state championship 500-yard freestyle race with a time of 4:54.33; and

WHEREAS, the victorious season is a testament to the skill and hard work of all the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of coaches and staff, and the enthusiastic support of family members, friends, and the entire Yorktown High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Yorktown High School girls' swim and dive team on winning the Virginia High School League Class 6 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Torey Ortmayer, head coach of the Yorktown High School girls' swim and dive team as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's athletic achievements.
