15104136D WHEREAS, Dennis Ray Daniels of Annandale, a passionate advocate for improved housing and economic development for Native Americans, a veteran of the United States Armed Forces, a community volunteer, and a devoted husband and father, died on August 14, 2014; and WHEREAS, a native of Alva, Oklahoma, Dennis Daniels was an outstanding athlete at Douglass High School and received an athletic scholarship to Butler County Junior College, now Butler Community College, in El Dorado, Kansas; and WHEREAS, Dennis Daniels served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era; after completing his military service, he enrolled at Wichita State University, becoming the first member of his family to earn a college degree; and WHEREAS, Dennis Daniels was a federal government employee for many years, working for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Kansas, Oklahoma, Arizona, and Washington, D.C.; and WHEREAS, Dennis Daniels then worked for the Office of Native American Programs at the Department of Housing and Urban Development; when he retired in 2006, he was director of headquarters operations; and WHEREAS, Dennis Daniels championed improved housing and economic development for Native Americans; his grasp of complex policy and legislative issues were of immense benefit to the nonprofit Native American Indian Housing Council, where he worked from 2006 to 2012; and WHEREAS, it was not only Dennis Daniels' breadth of understanding of federal policy but his willingness to share that knowledge with those working to improve the lives of Native Americans that left a positive and lasting impact; and WHEREAS, Dennis Daniels, who readily shared a smile with people around him, is remembered for his warmth, sense of humor, and wide knowledge of music; after retiring a second time, he derived great satisfaction from volunteer work and time spent with his children; and WHEREAS, Dennis Daniels will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his wife, Jennifer; his children, Carter, Kathryn, and Thomas, and grandson, Evan, and their families; and by many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Dennis Ray Daniels of Annandale, a passionate advocate for improved housing and economic development for Native Americans, a veteran of the United States Armed Forces, a community volunteer, and a devoted husband and father; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Dennis Ray Daniels as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory. |
