HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 431
Commending Charlottesville Tomorrow.
 
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 8, 2024
 

WHEREAS, Charlottesville Tomorrow is a community-driven news organization dedicated to shining light on social awareness and equity issues affecting Charlottesville; and

WHEREAS, founded in 2005, Charlottesville Tomorrow is guided by the organization's values of truth, community, and equity and strives to nurture a healthy local news community and ecosystem through its hiring practices, journalism, and partnerships; and

WHEREAS, as part of its mission, Charlottesville Tomorrow is dedicated to attracting journalists who are persons of color to help address disparities in the journalism profession and to improve representation in the local media; and

WHEREAS, Charlottesville Tomorrow is a founding partner of the Charlottesville Inclusive Media Project, which was formed with the goal of bringing more inclusive representation to Charlottesville's local media; and

WHEREAS, through its work with the Charlottesville Inclusive Media Project, Charlottesville Tomorrow fosters a greater sense of community, elevates conversations and stories of importance to African American audiences, and builds capacity to enable independent Black media companies and professionals to thrive; and

WHEREAS, the success of Charlottesville Tomorrow is a result of the support of approximately 10,000 subscribers, nearly 1,000 donors, and several foundations and companies that have aided the organization's work; and

WHEREAS, recognizing that an informed citizenry is the foundation of all democracies, Charlottesville Tomorrow has made great strides in furthering the pursuit of freedom, justice, and equality for all; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Charlottesville Tomorrow hereby be commended for its legacy of service; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Charlottesville Tomorrow as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's mission and achievements.
