HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 447
Celebrating the life of Maxine Driskill Woodard.
 
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 8, 2024
 

WHEREAS, Maxine Driskill Woodard, an accomplished nurse and businesswoman and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and member of the Gainesville community, died on September 4, 2019; and

WHEREAS, a native of Prince Edward County, Maxine Woodard learned to be helpful and resourceful from a young age growing up on the family farm; and

WHEREAS, alongside her sister Audrey, Maxine Woodard attended the former Grace Hospital School of Nursing in Richmond during World War II, which was sponsored by the United States Navy at the time, and graduated in 1945 as a registered nurse; and

WHEREAS, Maxine Woodard would continue to serve as a nurse and to care for people for many years thereafter, both in professional and volunteer capacities, working tirelessly to ensure the well-being of others; and

WHEREAS, Maxine Woodard and her husband, Bill, were partners in business and founded and owned Woodard Builders in Richmond and Storage America in Gainesville, among other enterprises; and

WHEREAS, a fearless and indefatigable adventurer, Maxine Woodard traveled to many corners of the globe over the years and notably went skydiving on her 80th birthday; and

WHEREAS, baptized at Spring Creek Baptist Church in Prince Edward County in the summer of 1936, Maxine Woodard was guided throughout her life by her faith; and

WHEREAS, preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Bill, Maxine Woodard will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her children, William, Douglas, Dean, Karen, and Barry, and their families and by numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Maxine Driskill Woodard, a cherished member of the Gainesville community who was a source of joy and inspiration to all who knew her; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Maxine Driskill Woodard as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for her memory.
