HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 62
Commending Masjid Aliya.
 
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 5, 2024
 

WHEREAS, Masjid Aliya, also known as the Islamic Center of Stafford, is a faith organization providing a safe and inspiring place where members of the local Muslim population and like-minded individuals may gather and pray, as well as ample opportunities for outreach and service; and

WHEREAS, the origins of Masjid Aliya may be traced to a group of Stafford locals who were seeking a space for Friday prayer; after outgrowing a hotel conference room and a Boy Scouts of America meeting lodge, the group sought its own dedicated location to allow its congregation to flourish; and

WHEREAS, Masjid Aliya was established in its own dedicated space in 2018 through the generous support of community members, particularly Hamid Ali Khan, who aspired to establish a masjid in the name of his late wife, Aliya; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Imam Sherif Shehata, Masjid Aliya currently supports the spiritual growth of its members and the well-being of the community through a variety of endeavors, including a food bank, youth group, Sunday School program, Eid prayers, Quran Academy, potlucks, barbecues, and a career development speaker series; and

WHEREAS, through the unwavering commitment of its members to the organization's mission and values, Masjid Aliya has made a meaningful and lasting impact on the Stafford community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Masjid Aliya hereby be commended for its service on the occasion of its fifth anniversary in its new dedicated space; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Masjid Aliya as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the masjid's history and its contributions to the Commonwealth.
