Celebrating the life of Floyd H. Miles, Jr.

WHEREAS, Floyd H. Miles, Jr., an honorable veteran, esteemed law-enforcement officer with the Charles City County Sheriff's Office, and beloved member of the Charles City County community, died in the line of duty on June 9, 2024; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Charles City High School in 1996, where he was a member of the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps and the football team, Floyd Miles enlisted with the United States Army, serving his country with honor and distinction as a military police officer; and

WHEREAS, following his service, Floyd Miles returned to Charles City County and joined the Charles City County Sheriff's Office, rising to the rank of sergeant and to the position of supervisor of the patrol and animal control divisions over his 16 years with the agency; and

WHEREAS, Floyd Miles made a difference in the lives of many as a longtime board member of the Peninsula Alcohol Safety Action Program, as well as a Drug Abuse Resistance Education instructor, general instructor, Project Lifesaver coordinator, and school resource officer; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of his successful efforts in the areas of intervention and enforcement, Floyd Miles received several awards from Mothers Against Drunk Driving over the years; and

WHEREAS, Floyd Miles was continually honing his abilities as a law-enforcement officer through various certification programs and had most recently graduated from animal control school; and

WHEREAS, Floyd Miles embodied the highest ideals of the law-enforcement profession as he worked tirelessly and with great integrity to ensure the safety and well-being of the Charles City County community; and

WHEREAS, guided throughout his life by his faith, Floyd Miles enjoyed worship and fellowship with his community at Little Elam Baptist Church in Charles City; and

WHEREAS, Floyd Miles will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife, Denise; his sons, Steven, Rashad, and Taequan; his parents, Floyd, Sr., and Clem; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Floyd H. Miles, Jr., a treasured member of the Charles City County community whose dedication and legacy of service will be an inspiration to others for generations to come; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family Floyd H. Miles, Jr., as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
