SENATE BILL NO. 246
AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE
(Proposed by the Senate Committee on Local Government
on 2/19/2010)
(Patrons Prior to Substitute--Senators Watkins and Petersen [SB 120])
A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding in Article 5 of Chapter 9 of Title 15.2 a section numbered 15.2-980, relating to noise ordinance violations.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Article 5 of Chapter 9 of Title 15.2 a section numbered 15.2-980 as follows:

§15.2-980. Civil penalties for violations of noise ordinances.

Any locality may, by ordinance, adopt a uniform schedule of civil penalties for violations of that locality's noise ordinance.  The penalty for an initial violation shall not exceed $250 and the penalty for any subsequent violation shall not exceed $500.
