A BILL to allow for a referendum to be held in 2022, relating to the removal of the Augusta County courthouse from the City of Staunton to Augusta County.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. §1. Notwithstanding the provisions of §15.2-1655 of the Code of Virginia, Augusta County may hold a new referendum in 2022 on the removal of the Augusta County courthouse from the City of Staunton to Augusta County if:

1. A new plan for the construction and estimated cost for relocating outside of the City of Staunton, to be implemented should the referendum pass, and a plan with estimated costs for the renovation and expansion of the courthouse in the City of Staunton, to be implemented should the referendum fail, are developed;

2. Both plans are to be made available to the public at least three months prior to the planned date of the referendum; and

3. The plan developed for the courthouse remaining in Staunton, if it is the option that prevails, shall be a mutual agreement between the City of Staunton and Augusta County.

4. The result of the referendum shall be binding and the corresponding plan shall be implemented.
