SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 121
Commending Ammon G. Dunton, Jr.

WHEREAS, Ammon G. Dunton, Jr., a respected attorney and active community leader, has made numerous contributions to the residents of the Northern Neck and the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, a native of Lancaster County, Ammon Dunton graduated from Yale University in 1957, then served the nation as an officer in the United States Army; he subsequently graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he served as an associate editor of the Virginia Journal of International Law; and

WHEREAS, Ammon Dunton began his career with Shearman & Sterling, a firm in New York City, then returned to the Northern Neck, where he currently focuses his practice on the administration of trusts and estates; as a registered investment advisor, he also has clients in numerous other states; and

WHEREAS, Ammon Dunton has offered his leadership and expertise to businesses in the region as chair of the Bay Banks of Virginia, chair of the Bank of Lancaster, chair of the Northern Neck Insurance Company, president of the Virginia Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, and vice president of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, outside of his career, Ammon Dunton generously supports many worthy charitable causes and serves as the president of the Tidewater Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Ammon Dunton has preserved the historical resources of the Northern Neck as president of the Mary Ball Washington Museum & Library, president of the Northern Neck Historical Society, chair of the Lancaster County Landmarks Commission, and former chair of the Lancaster County Bicentennial Commission; and

WHEREAS, Ammon Dunton also supports local cultural life as chair of the board of the Northern Neck Symphony Orchestra; and

WHEREAS, Ammon Dunton enjoys fellowship and worship with the congregation of Grace Episcopal Church in Kilmarnock, where he has served as a member of the vestry and was elected as senior warden three times; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Ammon G. Dunton, Jr., an attorney and community leader in the Northern Neck, for his many contributions to his profession and his fellow residents; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ammon G. Dunton, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his personal and professional achievements.
