Commending Grant Holloway.

WHEREAS, Grant Holloway, a native of Chesapeake, represented the Commonwealth at the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad in Paris, France, winning a gold medal for Team USA in the men's 110-meter hurdles event; and

WHEREAS, Grant Holloway began developing his passion for athletics at a young age and was a star member of track and field teams at Grassfield High School in Chesapeake and the University of Florida; and

WHEREAS, as a professional athlete, Grant Holloway has become one of the most dominant hurdlers in the world, setting several records and achieving a nine-year winning streak in indoor 60-meter hurdles that spanned high school, college, and professional competitions; and

WHEREAS, Grant Holloway's personal best time of 12.81 seconds in the men's 110-meter hurdles is the second-fastest time ever in the event; and

WHEREAS, Grant Holloway has previously won gold medals at the 2019, 2022, and 2023 International Association of Athletics Federations World Athletics Championships and a silver medal in the men's 110-meter hurdles event at the 2020 Summer Olympics; and

WHEREAS, returning to the Olympics with a renewed focus, Grant Holloway was the undisputed leader in the men's 110-meter hurdles event at Paris 2024, winning his first-round heat by 0.21 seconds and his semifinal by 0.19 seconds; and

WHEREAS, Grant Holloway earned the gold medal in the 110-meter hurdles final with an incredible time of 12.99 seconds, a 0.10-second margin; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Grant Holloway hereby be commended on winning a gold medal at the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad in 2024; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Grant Holloway as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for his exceptional athletic achievements and best wishes for the future.
