Celebrating the life of Charles L. McGowan.

WHEREAS, Charles L. McGowan, a longtime resident of Walkerton in King and Queen County known for his commitment to the local community, died on October 17, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Charles McGowan, fondly known as "Punksey," proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Army Air Force and remained dedicated to the well-being of his fellow veterans as a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8356; and

WHEREAS, a volunteer fireman with the Walkerton Community Fire Association, Charles McGowan devoted countless hours to the safety of local community members; and

WHEREAS, as chaplain for the fire department, Charles McGowan provided support and encouragement to his fellow firefighters and local residents in need; and

WHEREAS, a member of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Walkerton, Charles McGowan was also involved in community service activities through his affiliation with the Knights of Columbus; and

WHEREAS, known for his sense of humor and faithful service to Walkerton residents, Charles McGowan will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by numerous family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of a beloved citizen of Walkerton, Charles L. McGowan; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Charles L. McGowan as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's respect for his memory.
