WHEREAS, Laurie Corker, an outstanding educator who strives to make a difference in the lives of her students and who works to enhance the field of education, was named Louisa County Public Schools Teacher of the Year in May 2015; and

WHEREAS, having worked for Louisa County Public Schools for 24 years, Laurie Corker began her career at Jouett Elementary School and has worked at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, where she currently teaches fifth-grade mathematics, for nine years; and

WHEREAS, Laurie Corker cultivated a passion for education while studying mathematics at Grove City College and made it her mission to one day help students better understand difficult subjects; and

WHEREAS, Laurie Corker shows unparalleled dedication to her students, ensuring that they build a strong foundation for lifelong learning, not only by retaining mathematical formulas, but understanding how such concepts were developed and why they work; and

WHEREAS, Laurie Corker is admired for her ability to engage students and make learning fun; she is a respected leader both in and out of the classroom, and she is an active volunteer in the community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Laurie Corker hereby be commended on being named Louisa County Public Schools Teacher of the Year in 2015; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Laurie Corker as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for her dedication to her students and service to Louisa County.
