Recognizing the 153rd anniversary of Glenville State University.
Whereas, In February 1872, the passage of West Virginia Senate Bill 52 allowed for a branch of the state normal school to be established at Glenville; and
Whereas, The Glenville Branch of the West Virginia State Normal School was originally founded in order to serve the educational needs of West Virginia citizens by preparing teachers to serve in classrooms across the state; and
Whereas, Glenville State University has expanded its mission to now prepare students for careers, not only in teaching, but in business, land resources, criminal justice, music and art, health sciences, language arts, and human services; and
Whereas, Glenville State University continues to be critical to the educational and economic vitality of central West Virginia and beyond through a variety of educational and professional degrees at the associate, baccalaureate, and master’s levels; and
Whereas, Glenville State University continues to be a vital educational resource to the Mountain State and beyond; and
Whereas, Throughout its 153-year history, the faculty and staff of Glenville State University have served its students with distinction through an individualized and career-focused approach; and
Whereas, Glenville State University students, employees, and alumni actively support their communities financially and otherwise; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby recognizes the 153rd anniversary of Glenville State University; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate extends its sincere appreciation and gratitude to Glenville State University for its contributions to the state of West Virginia; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the president of Glenville State University, Dr. Mark A. Manchin.
