BILL NUMBER: SB 1012 INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Senator Nguyen (Coauthors: Senators Anderson, Bates, Berryhill, Cannella, Fuller, and Nielsen) (Coauthors: Assembly Members Brough and Mathis) FEBRUARY 11, 2016 An act to add Section 434.7 to the Government Code, relating to flags. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SB 1012, as introduced, Nguyen. Flags: purchase. Existing law requires the Flag of the United States and the Flag of the State of California to be prominently displayed during business hours upon or in front of the buildings or grounds of each public building belonging to the state, a county, or a municipality, among other places. This bill would, on and after January 1, 2017, require any Flag of the United States or the Flag of the State of California purchased by the state or any local government agency be made in the United States from articles, materials, or supplies that were grown, produced, and manufactured in the United States. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: yes. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 434.7 is added to the Government Code, to read: 434.7. (a) On and after January 1, 2017, any Flag of the United States or the Flag of the State of California purchased by the state or any local government agency shall be made in the United States from articles, materials, or supplies that were grown, produced, and manufactured in the United States. (b) For purposes of this section, the term "local government agency" means a county, city, city and county, town, municipal corporation, school district or other district, political subdivision, or any board, commission, or agency thereof, or other local agency.
