A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to special organized crime investigators;
3amending s. 27.251, F.S.; specifying matters that may be
4investigated by special organized crime investigators;
5providing an effective date.

7Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

9 Section 1. Section 27.251, Florida Statutes, is amended to
10read:
11 27.251 Special organized crime investigators.--The state
12attorney of each judicial circuit is authorized to employ any
13municipal or county police officer or sheriff's deputy on a
14full-time basis as an investigator for the state attorney's
15office with full powers of arrest throughout the judicial
16circuit provided such investigator serves on a special task
17force to investigate matters involving organized crime,
18including gang violence, or other criminal activity the
19detection of which might benefit from an interagency task force
20and, provided further, that the salary of such municipal or
21county police officer or sheriff's deputy shall be paid by the
22city, county, or sheriff by which the investigator is
23principally employed, and with the consent of the county,
24sheriff, or municipality. The arrest powers granted in this
25section may herein shall be exercised only in the furtherance of
26the conduct of the business of the special task force to which
27such municipal or county police officer or sheriff's deputy is
28assigned by the said state attorney.
29 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2010.
