A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

Relating to civil service.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Section 76-103, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended to read as follows:

     "§76-103  Veteran's preference.  The extent to which veteran's preference shall be given to [veterans, to disabled]:

     (1)  Veterans who served:

         (A)  During a war;

         (B)  During the period beginning April 28, 1952 through July 1, 1955;

         (C)  For more than one hundred eighty consecutive days, other than for training, any part of which occurred after January 31, 1955, and before October 15, 1976;

         (D)  During the Gulf War from August 2, 1990 through January 2, 1992;

         (E)  For more than one hundred eighty consecutive days, other than for training, any part of which occurred during the period beginning September 11, 2001, and ending on the date prescribed by Presidential proclamation or by law as the last day of Operation Iraqi Freedom; or

         (F)  In a campaign or expedition for which a campaign medal has been authorized; provided that any armed forces expeditionary medal or campaign badge, including El Salvador, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, southwest Asia, Somalia, and Haiti, qualifies for preference;

     (2)  Disabled veterans[, to spouses];

     (3)  Spouses of disabled veterans[, and to surviving]; and

     (4)  Surviving spouses of deceased servicemen who have not remarried,

shall be provided by rules and regulations."

     SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
