A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to the hawaii technology development corporation.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The legislature finds that the Hawaii technology development corporation is a key state agency in developing and supporting an innovation industry in the State. In 2017, the legislature provided funding for and made changes to the small business innovation research program. The legislature believes that continuation of the small business innovation research program is important for the State and supports the innovation industry.
The purpose of this Act is to support and sustain the small business innovation research program operated by the Hawaii technology development corporation.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $2,000,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2018-2019 for the continuance of the small business innovation research program; provided that the Hawaii technology development corporation shall plan to provide funds for phase three grants where applicable.
The sum appropriated shall be expended by the Hawaii technology development corporation for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2018.
