A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to public safety.
BE IT
ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The purpose of this Act is to authorize the development of the new Oahu community correctional center.
SECTION 2. (a) The department of public safety shall develop the new Oahu community correctional center in accordance with section 26-14.6, Hawaii Revised Statutes. The development may be phased to allow for the development of both the new Oahu community correctional facility and a new mental health facility.
(b) The department of public safety shall not transfer the operations of the new Oahu community correctional center to a corporation as defined by section 414-3.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2021.
