SENATE RESOLUTION
Urging the state to establish an annual statewide clean-up day on april 22 to COINCIDE WITH EARTH DAY AND celebrate and honor hawaii's environment and natural resources.
WHEREAS, Hawaii is a paradise in the Pacific, often acclaimed for its physical beauty, tropical weather, and friendly culture; and
WHEREAS, it is essential for Hawaii residents to continue to be stewards of the land, ensuring that Hawaii will remain habitable and sustainable for future generations; and
WHEREAS, Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 of each year to celebrate Earth's life, beauty, and the need for preserving and renewing the threatened ecological balances upon which all life on Earth depends; and
WHEREAS, in an effort to align with the celebratory efforts of Earth Day participants from all over the world, Hawaii, as a state that encompasses diverse physical features, should establish a local effort toward the beautification of the land, mountains, and oceans; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2016, that the State is urged to establish an annual Statewide Clean-Up Day on April 22 to coincide with Earth Day and celebrate and honor Hawaii's environment and natural resources; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Statewide Clean-Up Day may include appropriate displays, celebrations, and community events that highlight the importance of maintaining and preserving Hawaii's land, ocean, and other natural resources; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor.
