subparagraph
(1),
Code
2023,
is
amended
to
read
as
follows:

(1)
(a)
Intentionally
points
a
laser
emitting
a
visible
3
light
beam
at
toward
another
person
with
the
intent
to
cause
4
pain
or
injury
to
another
,
or
toward
an
aircraft
.
For
purposes
5
of
this
paragraph,
“laser”
means
a
device
that
emits
a
visible
6
light
beam
amplified
by
the
stimulated
emission
of
radiation
7
and
any
light
which
simulates
the
appearance
of
a
laser.

(b)
For
purposes
of
this
subparagraph
(1):

(i)
“Aircraft”
means
any
contrivance
intended
for
and
10
capable
of
transporting
persons
through
the
airspace.

(ii)
“Laser”
means
a
device
that
emits
a
visible
light
beam
12
amplified
by
the
stimulated
emission
of
radiation
and
any
light
13
which
simulates
the
appearance
of
a
laser.

This
bill
relates
to
an
assault
involving
a
laser
pointed

toward
an
aircraft.

The
bill
provides
that
it
is
an
assault
for
a
person
to
20
intentionally
point
a
laser
emitting
a
visible
light
beam
21
toward
an
aircraft.
The
bill
defines
“aircraft”
as
any
22
contrivance
intended
for
and
capable
of
transporting
persons
23
through
the
airspace.
24
Penalties
for
assault
range
from
a
simple
misdemeanor
to
a
25
class
“C”
felony.
